Drinking and using always starts as a part-time deal. Maybe for you, it was a weekend thing at first; or, for special occasions only. For some of us, though, the boundaries around drug and alcohol use can quickly bend and break, turning substance abuse and all it entails into a full-time job. When that happens, it’s hard — if not impossible — to hold down work at the same time. If you’re lucky enough to have managed to keep your job while dealing with addiction, you have to know that it can’t last. Still, it is possible to get help while still working — which could mean you get to keep your job for the long-term.
Treatment for drug and alcohol addiction doesn’t have to look the same for everyone, and there is a way to make it fit your needs. Here are your options for getting clean and sober for good.
Addiction Treatment
Telehealth Addiction Treatment
Telehealth addiction treatment allows you to get the help you need from the comfort of your own home. In telehealth, medical professionals can connect with you via phone or computer. Of course, the success of telehealth depends on having a safe and comfortable home that’s free of triggers. If that’s not the case for you, the next option might be a better fit.
In-Patient Residential Addiction Treatment
If you are ready to devote yourself 100% to getting clean and sober, in-patient residential addiction treatment — aka rehab — could be your best bet. Residential treatment can offer you a wide range of services: from making your detox more comfortable to treating any co-occurring disorders. In general, it’s a great way to get out of your normal environment and learn how to cope without the use of drugs in a safe place where you know your dealer won’t be stopping by.
Depending on your job, you may be legally allowed to take time off for treatment. Check out our guide on how to get clean and keep your job HERE.
Outpatient Addiction Treatment
Outpatient programs typically follow when you leave an in-patient facility, but if you’re not ready for 24/7 treatment or think you don’t need it, sometimes it can be a first step. Outpatient programs are generally less intensive, which means you may be able to fit treatment around your normal responsibilities. Nighttime programs, in particular, can help those who have odd hours or tend to want to use after work. At Transformations Care, we offer both daytime and nighttime telehealth tracks, so you can make getting addiction treatment fit to your schedule.
Telling Your Boss You Need Rehab
If you’re ready to get the help you need but don’t know how to tell your boss, we can help.
There are a few things to consider when taking leave. First, the Family and Medical Leave act will cover you for 12 weeks of unpaid time off if you’ve been employed for 12 months and worked at least 1,250 hours during the year before you take leave.
There also is the Americans with Disabilities Act which may cover you if the FMLA doesn’t. The law protects workers in recovery from alcoholism or drug addiction and qualifies addiction as a disability.
Check out our guide to telling your boss HERE or give us a call and we can help talk you through it.
What to Expect in Addiction Treatment
Transformations Care is a six-bed drug rehab in the South Bay area of California. We are a no-BS facility that offers dual-diagnosis and specialized plans for each of our clients. We will help you detox if you need it, and then help you work through your reasons for using — so you can stop once and for all.

GUIDE
Getting Clean & Sober at Home
Today, more than 75% of hospitals and healthcare providers offer access to telehealth treatment, with 29 states having gone so far as to enact telehealth parity laws, which force insurance companies to reimburse patients for telehealth at the same rates as they would for in-person treatment.
If you’ve been thinking about getting clean and sober, or if you’ve been wanting to work on and strengthen the recovery you already have, it’s never been easier to do it through telehealth.
