If you haven’t been through a full-on detox, the fear of what it’s like might be keeping you from getting clean. Or, if you’ve done it before, you might be wondering if there’s a way to make the experience suck less. Either way, making the decision to enter a detox facility will absolutely help.
In detox, your body clears out all of the drugs and alcohol that you’ve been dumping into it over the years. If you’ve been doing a lot, that process can be brutal.
When your body starts to notice the drugs are gone, and lets you know it in a big way, that’s called withdrawal. Many people with substance use disorder have experienced a little bit of withdrawal in between each drink or drug: nausea, anxiety, body aches, etc.
If you let withdrawal continue without any medical management, you might also experience high blood pressure, high heart rate, coma or even death.
A managed detox ensures that you’re safe while you’re kicking. At the same time, medications can be prescribed to make your withdrawal symptoms a little less intense.
Depending on your drug of choice, withdrawal symptoms usually begin within 24 hours, and peak within a few days. Most people are good to go after 10, although that hardly means they’re “cured.”
At Transformations we will take you into the rest of the process with interactive, intelligent counseling and one on one therapy. We are here to help you heal your mind, body and spirit. Our team of counselors and clinicians will remind you of what fun is and encourage you to have some with us.
Detox only leads to long-term recovery if you look at it as the preparation to allow you to do the work. At Transformations Care, we don’t just give you a bed. We give you the support and tools you need to take the first steps in recovery.
If you want, you can even stay on to continue residential treatment right at our facility, with the same team you’ll already know.
Later, you will have allies in us and we are happy to check in with you and have you come by the facility as alumni and share your hope with those who come after you.
What happens, then, in detox? You don’t just get clear eyes and a clear head. You get ready to take on recovery.

GUIDE
Getting Clean & Sober at Home
Today, more than 75% of hospitals and healthcare providers offer access to telehealth treatment, with 29 states having gone so far as to enact telehealth parity laws, which force insurance companies to reimburse patients for telehealth at the same rates as they would for in-person treatment.
If you’ve been thinking about getting clean and sober, or if you’ve been wanting to work on and strengthen the recovery you already have, it’s never been easier to do it through telehealth.
